From War to Peace: Perspectives from the East

The International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES) conducted a workshop entitled “From War to Peace: Perspectives from the East” in Batticaloa on the 26th and 27th of November 2011. The primary objective was to analyze key developments since the end of war and identify the challenges the country faces as it emerges from 30 years of political violence. In this context, the dialogue explored some of the current concerns and discussed recommendations in order to forge a sustainable and long term peace that will benefit all Sri Lankans.

This study aims to analyze the characteristics and new dimensions of the emerging discourse of development in post-war Sri Lanka with related to the two significant state-led development projects initiated in Northern and Eastern provinces during the last phase of the ethnic civil war, namely Uthuru Wasanthaya and Negenahira Navodaya.
