Book Launch: The Making of a Historian by Professor K. M. de Silva

K. M. de Silva is an eminent Sri Lankan historian educated at the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya and the University of London. His doctoral research at University of London led to the publication titled Social Policy and Missionary Organization in Ceylon, 1840-1855 in 1965. He has been a prolific writer on Sri Lankan history. His work includes the highly-acclaimed History of Sri Lanka first published by Oxford University Press in 1981. Professor de Silva was awarded a D.Litt. by the University of London in 1991. He founded the International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES) in 1982 and served as its Chairman and Executive Director. In 1990-91 he was a Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson Center for scholars in Washington DC. He was awarded the prestigious Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in the Academic Category in 2002 and the Deshamanya title at the 2017 Sri Lankan National Honours ceremony. Professor de Silva was appointed Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in May 2017.
