Women’s representation in elected political bodies in Sri Lanka, at the levels of local and political councils as well as the parliament, is amongst the lowest in the world. The Sri Lankan case is illustrative of how strong social development indicator for women in areas such as health or education do not necessarily translate into the increased political representation.
