Vacancy for the Post of Executive Director, International Centre for Ethnic Studies
The International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES) is looking for an Executive Director to lead its operations with effect from January 1, 2012.

The ICES was established in 1982. Engaged in cutting edge research on ethnicity and related identity issues, ICES has striven to be a centre of excellence for intellectual activity in Sri Lanka and South Asia. ICES, established as a non-profit institution chartered under Sri Lankan company law, is a research organization located in Sri Lanka. The commitment of ICES to diversity is reflected in its multi-ethnic Sri Lankan staff. The ICES Board of Directors reflects a similar diversity of interests and linkages with other organizations in Sri Lanka and abroad.

The duties of the Executive Director would include:

1. the planning and supervision of the programme of activities of the ICES, including its research programme in association with the research staff and Board of Directors
2. the supervision of the administration/finance of the ICES
3. active engagement in fundraising. In the performance of his/her duties the Executive Director shall be responsible to the Board of Directors.

Applicants to the position must have the following qualifications:

1. A commitment to the values of pluralism, multiculturalism and human rights
2. PhD or Master’s Degree in a relevant field
3. Proven management and leadership experience
4. Demonstrated experience in conducting research, proposal writing and supervision of research projects.

A competitive remuneration package with fringe benefits would be available to the applicant. This would be negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. The contract will initially be for a duration of two years, but is renewable.
